Ms. Heggys Art Class
Instructor: Ms. Heggy
Art is one of the classes that 5th grade students will take while enrolled in Exploratory Electives.  It is approximately 9 weeks of a studio based class where the students will create as many artworks as they can in the short amount of time 5th graders are in each elective.  This gives the students a idea of what Art is about and will allow 5th graders to make a better decision on whether or not they want to take Art in 6th grade and further into the future.

6th grade Art is a semester long class that student's may choose to take by enrolling in Discovery Elective.  6th graders are given 4 options;  1: Art & Spanish, 2: Band, 3: Choir, or 4. Theatre Arts & Computer Apps.  If Art/Spanish is chosen, students will continue to make all new studio projects but also begin experiencing more art history and art criticism.  In this semester-long class, students will begin to learn about the Art Elements: Line, Shape, Form, Color, Value, Texture and Space.  The other semeter of Discovery Elective is Spanish.

In both Art 5 & Art 6, students will complete several artworks that may include marker and crayon drawings, pen drawings, origami, metal tooling, printmaking, plaster sculpture, painting, scratch art, solar prints, abstract sculpture, paper toy sculpture, papier mache, bookmaking and more.
